What Are The Signs To Contact An Emergency Plumber?

July 13, 2022

You've got a plumbing problem and it's not going away. What do you do? It's time to call in the professionals. But what are the signs that your pipes need professional attention urgently? Our emergency plumbers are available at any time and arrive quickly if there’s an urgent plumbing matter. If left untreated, certain issues can result in serious damage to your property and harm to you and your family. Here are 6 signs that you need an emergency plumber.

1. Blocked drains

A blocked drain can be a sign of a more serious plumbing problem, so it's important to keep an eye out for the warning signs, such as foul sewerage smells and backflow. If you notice that your drain isn't clearing properly, try pouring hot water down it to release any blockages. If this doesn't work, call an emergency plumber right away.

2. Overflowing toilet

If you've flushed your toilet and the water has come up instead of going down, then this can be a sign of a serious problem. Open the tank lid and look inside. If the water level is high, then your toilet is definitely overflowing. If it's low or almost empty, then it may not be necessary for you to call a plumber immediately as this can sometimes happen when flushing is so strong the water doesn’t drain quick enough.

3. Running or dripping water

Have you noticed dripping sounds around your home but you can't place where they're coming from? Is your washing machine leaking or making strange noises? Is there water coming through the floorboards in the kitchen or bathroom, even though it’s not raining outside? These are all tell-tale signs of a leak and require an emergency plumber straight away.

4. Burst pipes

Check the pressure of your water system regularly. If you find that it's too high, then the next step would be to turn off all taps and wait for the pressure levels to drop. You should also check for leaks around pipes and fittings as these small cracks will eventually become major problems if left untreated. If you spot water stains or small leaks, then we would recommend getting in touch with us straight away so that we can repair any damage before things get out of hand.

5. Low water pressure

Low water pressure can cause problems for your home's plumbing system as well as any appliances connected to it—if you aren't getting enough pressure in one area of your house, other pipes will likely have trouble delivering adequate amounts of water through their lines as well. Low water pressure can be caused by a number of things, including leaks, blocked pipes and closed shut-off valves. If you suspect you have a leak or blocked pipe, call an emergency plumber immediately.

6. No hot water

If you have no hot water, check that the thermostat on your boiler or hot water cylinder has been set at the correct temperature. If it's too high or low, this will prevent your system from working properly. Check that the hot and cold water isn’t turned off at the mains supply or your boiler. If neither of these work, you need to call a plumber as soon as possible.
